what I am not

I’m not the type of love

you forget.

I’m not the type of love

you bury and leave

for dead.

there is too much life in my love

for it to just end like that,

too much fire in my passion

for it to be washed away

by new lips and acquaintances.

I’m not the type of love

you can run from-

my arms will always be home

my kiss will always be a healing balm

soothing the pain of goodbyes said

but never meant.

I’m not the type of love

that is selfish,

the type of love

that is passive-

I’ll set us both in flames

so we can rise from the ashes

and live the type of love

we were meant

to have.
