Poets don’t write because they can.
Poets write poetry because they can’t outrun it-
magic floating words appear wherever they are
a literary melody that sways its way down from the ether
and into the poet’s heart.
like a drop of thick black ink falling into virginal water
the words saturate every inch of a poet’s soul
before flowing from inspired hands and
transforming into letters on the page.
Poets don’t write because they can.
Poets write poetry because they are
one and the same.
