if I could only be a song

I wish I were your song-

to not exist and yet be so much

to float in the air as you fall in love,

to shower with you, to start my days with you,

and to end them with you, too;

to be in your mind and in your heart

to linger on your lips

and bring you memories of childhood days

and first love scars,

of afternoons spent laying on the grass

inhaling that salty summer scent

we will never quite get back.

Oh, how I’d like to surround you

melodically travel your body

and buzz on your skin just long enough

to make you wish

you were my song, too.
